   Save the Heartbeat is a nonprofit organization established in 2016 in honor of our second son, Remington, who was born with an undiagnosed congenital heart disease in 2013. Congenital heart disease is the most common birth defect, affecting about 1 in every 100 live births worldwide. Congenital heart disease (CHD) can never be cured. Only treated, or repaired. When Remington was born, our entire world turned upside down. CHD was something we had never heard of, and we could not fathom how this disease went undiagnosed during pregnancy. Remington’s journey made us realize that more needs to be done in the CHD community. It was put on our hearts to establish this foundation in hopes of making even the slightest impact on a community that so desperately needs attention and aid. If you are reading this letter today, we thank you. Thank you for being one more person that has learned perhaps one statistic about congenital heart disease. Our prayer is that everyone will learn one fact about this disease and share it with others. Technology and medicine have come such a long way in treating children born with CHD so outcomes are becoming more and more successful. Still, so much work needs to be done. We won’t stop fighting to improve the lives of those affected by CHD and we hope you will join us in our fight.
